The loose game

I feel that it is much easier to make good money on a loose table than it is on a tight table, the reason I say this is many inexperienced players choose to adopt this style, so instead of playing the style well they generally just throw good chips away. This is because they play far too many hands and normally continue to play loosing hands for beyond the point in which they should have folded.

If you come up against a very loose,, inexperienced player on your table, the process  you need to follow to beat them is very simple. All you need to do is waiting for a premium hand; you should then allow them to continue betting into you. If you do this you should be able to take down the hand with your superior pocket cards and earn good money.
However there is a new breed of loose players, these players are known as loose-aggressive or (LAG) one player who has mastered this art is Gus Hansen. He is one of the best players in the world and has got to that stage playing this very same style. A good LAG player is a very dangerous opponent and should be avoided. On the other hand a poor lag player is very easy to beat; all you need to do is follow the same process as described above to beat a loose player.

Playing a LAG

A bad lag will play for too many weak hands on a too regular basis; this makes them easy to trap, once you pick up a premium hand you can slow play the hand and extract maximum chips from them, you also want to make sure you have position on these bad lag players ( position is sitting at the seat to the immediate left of the player) you want to be sat here so they have to act first this will save you money as they will not be able to raise you to death every time you try to call a hand.

LAGS by nature play a large amount of hands, this means that you have to try and adopt a passive style against a lag. You have to wait for a good hand before you involve yourself in the pot. Although good hands do not come along all that often when you get one you can pretty much guarantee that there will be a large pot to back it up. Just make sure that when it comes down to a show down you are holding the best hand or you could see yourself losing a fair amount of chips in one hand.

Before you enter a table where you identify a player as a bad LAG you need to ask yourself some questions, has the player made any mistakes? If so how many have they made and how often do they make them? If you are not sure to the answer of any of these questions or if there style of play does not match any of these, then i would advise that you stay away from a table playing a good lag can be a very costly experience. Just like a bad lag a good lag player will jam the pot pre and post flop, but rest assured if it come to the point where the pot is building substantially and this player is still remain in the hand they are going to be holding the nuts or something that is going to be very difficult to beat.

Overview

The main difference between a good lag and a bad lag is self control a good lag knows when it is time to calm there play down and slow things up a bit where as a bad lag cannot identify when you need to do this, a bad lag isn’t necessary a player who cannot earn money as they often hold large pots on a table it is just that a bad lag will lose the money they have earned just as quick as they acquired it. Always try and identify whether the player you are watching is a good or a bad lag it will be identifying this correctly that will either win or lose you money.

Obviously when you play poker in the real world you would be very fortunate to find a table with either  loose or tight players you will more often than not find both types of player at a table this means that you quickly need to indentify whether they are good at their respective styles. If they are not you need to be able to switch your game to utilise the profit you make out of both type of player.
